Jason Licht finally got the edge rusher the Bucs defense desperately needed last season as former USF star Jason Pierre-Paul comes to Tampa from the New York Giants.

Jason Licht finally got the edge rusher the Bucs defense desperately needed last season as former USF star Jason Pierre-Paul come to Tampa from the New York Giants.

The Bucs traded a 3rd and 4th round pick for Pierre-Paul who had 8.5 sacks last season. For his career, Pierre-Paul has 58 sacks and is a player that opposing offenses will have to pay attention as to where he lines up on the field. Pierre-Paul will make 12.5 million next year, 14.5 Million in 2019, and 12.5 million in 2020.

The Bucs defense today is significantly better than it was at the end of the 2017 season. Brenston Buckner is licking his chops as to how he is going to deploy all this talent the team has picked up the last few weeks.

On the edge you now have Noah Spence, Vinny Curry, and Jason Pierre-Paul. At DT, Gerald McCoy, Beau Allen and Mitch Unrein. The DL will bring a lot of physicality to the DL play, something that has been missing the last few years. This line will not get pushed around and man-handled like we saw so many times last season.

We are just halfway through the off-season, and I’m sure there will be more moves made by Jason Licht to improve this defense. The Bucs are on the clock at No. 7. Do you take Bradley Chubb the DE out of North Carolina State If he is on the board? Or do you improve the secondary by taking Minkah Fitzpatrick of Alabama providing he is still available.? How about Quenton Nelson the Guard from Notre Dame, or Saquon Barkley the RB from Notre Dame? Lots to consider if you’re Jason Licht.

—The Bucs have done nothing to improve their secondary, and may lose Robert McClain. McClain was reportedly visiting Arizona today.

—Denver signed former DT Clinton McDonald to a 2-yr/7.5 million dollar contract.
